VowelMarks does not sell your personal information, use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or run ads.
Information we collect
Account and payment information
If you create an account, we collect information needed to operate it, such as your email address and account identifier. Authentication is handled through a third-party authentication provider.
If you subscribe to a paid plan, our merchant-of-record payment provider handles your payment details directly. VowelMarks does not receive or store your full payment-card number.
Optional promotional emails
For new signups detected in the United States, or when location is unavailable, occasional learning tips, product updates, and offers are enabled by default. In other detected locations, these emails are off unless you choose them during signup. Location is estimated from the connection and may not reflect where you live.
You can change this preference in your account or unsubscribe from a promotional email. We record your preference, its date, the signup policy version, the detected country, and whether enrollment was an explicit choice, the U.S. default, or the unknown-location default. Essential account messages, sign-in codes, and receipts are separate.
Text and content you process
VowelMarks processes the text and other content needed to provide the features you request.
Ordinary reading assistance, such as adding reading marks, is processed through VowelMarks infrastructure and is not sent to a third-party generative AI provider. Text processed only for ordinary marking is used to generate the result and is not stored as learning history unless another feature calls for that information to be saved.
When you use an AI, translation, or speech feature, we send the content and limited context needed for that feature to the applicable service provider. Depending on the feature, this may include a selected passage, relevant portions of the current article, recent turns in an active conversation, or limited learning information used to personalize practice. We do not send your complete learning history to an AI provider.
VowelMarks does not use your submitted content to train its own AI models.
Learning history and saved content
If you are signed in, VowelMarks saves learning activity so that features such as My VowelMarks, personalized practice, progress tracking, saved readings, and adaptive assistance can work across sessions and devices. This may include words or passages you save, help you request, practice activity and results, and other information used to personalize your learning experience.
You can turn learning history off, export supported learning data, or delete your learning data through VowelMarks settings.
Some information is also stored locally in your browser or the VowelMarks extension, including preferences, cached results, local conversation history, and information needed to maintain or retry product actions.
When you generate speech, VowelMarks may temporarily store a private copy so the same audio does not need to be regenerated. Basic Voice audio may be cached for up to 24 hours and Premium Voice audio for up to 30 days. Premium recordings you explicitly save remain in your private recording library until you delete them or delete your account.
When you choose the Basic voices Kian or Leyla, the submitted Persian text is sent through VowelMarks to Microsoft Edge Read Aloud to generate audio. Ava, Mana, and Amir are generated by VowelMarks' self-hosted speech service. Premium Voice uses the managed provider described by the selected Premium feature.
Usage, analytics, and technical information
We collect pseudonymous information about how VowelMarks is used, such as features used, general usage levels, plan type, product outcomes, performance, and how visitors found VowelMarks. We use this information to understand product usage, improve VowelMarks, and identify reliability or usability problems.
On some public pages, eligible web-reader surfaces, and signed-out sign-in and signup forms, we may collect interaction analytics and session replays to understand and improve how the site is used. Replays may include the email address you enter on a sign-in or signup form so we can investigate account-access problems and contact you about them. Verification codes, passwords, and other designated sensitive fields remain masked. We do not record signed-in account dashboards, saved-learning, checkout, or privacy-settings pages.
On those eligible website analytics and session-replay events, our analytics provider may derive approximate location information from the request IP address, including country, region, city, postal area, time zone, and approximate latitude and longitude. We use this information to understand where the product is used and diagnose regional experience differences; we do not use it for advertising.
We do not include submitted Persian text, AI conversations, email addresses, payment information, authentication credentials, or full page URLs in structured product-usage events. The session replay email exception described above is separate from those events.
Product analytics are enabled by default. You can turn optional product analytics off at any time through VowelMarks settings or the Privacy Controls page. Records needed for billing, quotas, fraud and abuse prevention, security, and essential service reliability may still be collected when optional analytics are disabled.
We may also collect limited technical and diagnostic information, such as browser or extension version, device or installation identifiers, errors, request information, and service performance. We configure our diagnostic systems to avoid intentionally sending submitted Persian text, AI conversations, payment information, authentication credentials, or other unnecessary user content.
VowelMarks and its service providers may use cookies, local storage, extension storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember settings, maintain security and session state, operate saved or cached features, and support optional analytics. We do not use them for third-party advertising.
We do not currently change our optional analytics practices in response to browser “Do Not Track” or similar signals. You can control optional analytics directly through VowelMarks Privacy Controls.
Feedback and support
If you contact us, submit feedback, or report a problem, we collect the information you choose to provide so we can respond, investigate issues, and improve VowelMarks.
If you choose to include visible context when submitting feedback about an AI-assisted feature, that context may be retained for up to 90 days. Written feedback may be retained for up to 12 months.
How we use information
We use information to provide and personalize VowelMarks, operate accounts and subscriptions, enforce plan limits, maintain security, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, understand and improve the product, respond to support and feedback, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How we share information
We use service providers for functions such as authentication, billing, hosting and storage, AI processing, translation, speech generation, analytics, diagnostics, and security. They receive information as needed to provide those services, and information they process is subject to their applicable data-handling practices and terms.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, protect VowelMarks or its users, investigate fraud or abuse, enforce our Terms of Use, or in connection with a sale, reorganization, or transfer of VowelMarks or its assets.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Data retention
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy and for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, dispute, or similar needs.
Learning history generally remains associated with your account until you delete it or delete your account. As learning history grows, older detailed activity may be reduced into summary information used to preserve longer-term learning patterns.
Temporary Basic Voice audio may be retained for up to 24 hours and temporary Premium Voice audio for up to 30 days. Saved recordings remain until you delete them or delete your account. Optional AI-feedback context may be retained for up to 90 days and written feedback for up to 12 months.
Analytics, diagnostics, billing, security, and other operational records may be retained for periods reasonably necessary for their purposes. Some records may need to be retained after account deletion where required or reasonably necessary for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, or dispute purposes.
Your choices and rights
You can use VowelMarks controls to turn off optional analytics, turn off learning history, export or delete supported learning data, delete saved recordings and local history, and request deletion of your account.
Account deletion may not remove limited records that we or our service providers are required or reasonably need to retain for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, or dispute purposes.
Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional rights relating to your personal information, including rights to access, correct, or delete certain information. You can contact us to exercise any rights that apply to you.
Children
VowelMarks is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to VowelMarks, contact us.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information handled by VowelMarks. The extension also includes protections intended to reduce cloud processing of sensitive information.
No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as VowelMarks changes. We will revise the “Last updated” date when we do. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we may provide additional notice where appropriate or required by law.
